Haridwar

Known as one of the most ancient and sacred cities in India, Haridwar is situated on the banks of the Holy Ganga River and is one of the few places near Delhi to visit at any time during the year, and if you are an ardent devotee, then there are specific times during the year that you can visit this place.

Mansa Devi Temple

Mansa Devi Temple is one of the most revered religious spots in Haridwar, pulling tourists and devotees from different parts of the country. Since Haridwar is one of the holiest cities for the followers of Hinduism, it naturally houses a great number of temples. However, the significance of this temple located on the top of Bilwa Parvat is unique. 

The temple is dedicated to goddess Mansa Devi. It is believed that the wishes of every sincere devotee are fulfilled here. There is an interesting folk tale concerning the inception of this temple. Since the temple is located atop a hill, you can reach here by either trekking or by taking a ropeway ride.

Crystal World

Har Ki Pauri

One of the most sacred spots in the town, Har Ki Pauri holds an unmatched significance in the divine aura of Haridwar. It is a holy ghat located on the bank of river Ganges. Devotees from all over the country come to this ghat to take a dip in the river, seeking absolution of their sins as it is believed that the holy waters of the river wash away sins.

For the best experience, visit this ghat during sunset when you can catch the famous evening aarti that is held here every day. Har Ki Pauri is, owing to its popularity among pilgrims visiting Haridwar, counted among the major places to visit in Haridwar.

Chandi Devi Temple

If you are looking for the most famous spiritual places to visit in Haridwar, do not forget to include Chandi Devi Temple on your list. The temple was first built in the year 1929 by Suchat Singh, and has been through some renovations and expansions since then. This temple is a popular place not only among pilgrims but also among Indian and foreign tourists since its aura offers a better and a closer understanding of the Hindu culture. 

Situated on the top of Neel Parvat in the Shivalik Range of Himalayas, this temple also offers splendid views of the green beauty spread all over in the region. A trek of 3 km and a cable car ride are the two options to reach the temple.

Maya Devi Temple

One of the three most prominent Hindu temples located in Haridwar, Maya Devi Temple is also counted among the most visited tourist places in Haridwar. The temple is dedicated to Hindu goddess Maya. According to the popular belief, the site where the temple is situated is the same site where the heart and navel of goddess Sati fell. 

Though the temple complex exhibits a modest architecture and structure, the importance of the temple is not smaller than any other temple in the city. Whether you are visiting Haridwar for attaining spirituality or you just want to experience the cultural hues of this holy city, Maya Devi Temple is a must visit place.

Sapt Rishi Ashram

If the purpose of your visit to Haridwar is to indulge in a peaceful holiday experience, relaxing in the company of pristine nature, Sapt Rishi Ashram is one of the most appropriate places to visit in Haridwar. The peaceful ambience of this ashram located on the bank of river Ganges makes it a perfect spot for meditation and yoga. 

The site where the ashram is located is called Sapt Sarovar. As per the popular myth, this is the place where seven great sages meditated once, but the gushing noise of the river interrupted their focus, so they split the river into seven different streams.

Bara Bazar

Haridwar may not have options for luxury shopping, but you can find almost everything you need at the markets here. The traditional bazars like Bara Bazar complement the old world charm the city wears around it like a priceless shroud. This colourful bazar is the main marketplace in the city. 

From a number of restaurants, sweet shops, and food vendors to small shops selling handicrafts, ornaments and ayurvedic products – Bara Bazar will keep you hooked with all that is on offer here. You will easily find something here that you can take back home as a souvenir.
